Hey erq, I read that you were starting all over. I was curious where you'll start of since, as you said yourself, already have some knowledge that is nowhere near novice-mode :p

I feel like doing the same 'cause I think I missed some fundamental stuff when I started drawing, focussing on solely certain aspects, while ignoring others. But, I don't quite know where to start, so I'm asking you for guidance

yep, Im trying to get back to the very basics, and I hope to renew my style and everything Ive been doing. Like Im hitting refresh.

I would try rendering simple geometric objects using either: line (measuring to make sure its even and straight and the perspective is dead on), light and shadow (getting it as close to your reference as possible), or color (this is a bit harder as I still cant get it right). For color things like temperature of the light source, where the object is and how light bounces from it and to it from other objects, what texture it is (whether its reflective or not), what hue and tone it is, is the scene over saturated, is there atmospheric elements (fog, hot air distortion, etc...) and other things. Just really nail down the basic objects. hope that helps

some more smores

Nice dude, I like your erq reloaded idea. It's good to step back and re-evaluate which direction you wanna go. I still love your latest sketches however, and I wonder why we don't see you round school anymore!?

Man all the cool people graduated already. poo.

I still got about a year. I'm thinking about slowing down a bit, cause I really wanna try for some cool internships this coming summer, and if I only have 3 instead of four classes, it'll be easier for me to keep up my grades so the school will keep giving me money.

Love the recent sketches man! I don't know why but I really wanna try and color that weird guy with the big head and crazy eyes. Also, great colors in that Sargent master copy. Those master painter guys make me want to paint like crazy. BTW if I see you around the city some time lets go draw at borders or something!

And even though its super late to answer your question... I will anyways, since its pretty relevant right now (submission deadlines). I'm going to be applying EVERYWHERE (near the bay area)! Recently I got to work on a Disney film, so hopefully that'll lead into more movie work. I know that its tough to get into one of the animation studios, so I'ma try hard to get an internship this summer, and apply to a bunch of game studios too. Man, it's gonna be rough though, all those folks from image movers getting let go makes me nervous about the industry.

How's post grad life for you?

Workshop and bart =]

something random and quick

Hey Jigo!
Thanks, Id like to see those colors from you. Yeah, they make it seem effortless, and its like the more I learn about color the more I notice how complex and how planned everything in their work is.

Awesome, anything released to the public yet?

Yeah, internships are where its at right now. I was super lucky to get one right out of school and ended up working for that company (xy3d in palo alto). Too bad its really slow right now. Ive been doing contract work on the side for now, just something to get me by while I build up my demo reel. Ive also been dj-ing at random spots, good clean fun =].

Yeah, Im usually in the city on mondays, but I can come through during the week or weekend. My schedule is pretty loose right now. Id be down to sketch around the city. Im actually working on more of those portraits like this one, like a series (just making my self sound fyancee). Id be down to collab too.

astrapho: ask and ye shall receive.

Back from the dead Pt 2.6
Decided that I was slacking off on updating anything online. School, work and personal life are kicking my ass at the same time, kind of like a gang of Yakuza.
So heres some old old old stuff:

Awesome stuff man. I think its really great how you can take an image to a nice level of finish, something i have major problems with. Those figure sketches are really nice too.
