![]() A. Mantis is a fish who wears three shark teeth around his neck to show he's afraid of nobody. He's the last of his species and doesn't like it. He went to fishy school, graduated with fishy honors, got a fishy internship somewhere, moved into a clam, and now hangs around wondering what to do with his very fishy life. Once in a while his fishy parents call and ask him around for fishy tea. Enjoy. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Wow, I can't believe how long it's been. Sorry about only having one page to show for it! ![]() Last edited by gold_tangerine : 03-29-2008 at 01:27 PM. |

Huahaha, that's very nice.
But isn't A. Mantis a pretty strange name for a fish? |

People just call him Mantis. Sounds a bit like a lawyer...

When I read Atlantic Mantis I thought I was going to get a gigantic amphibious bug that emerges from the ocean to trash Tokyo city and duke it out with Godzilla...
... But yeah, the little fish is cool too. Nice one!

Besides, his name...do you get it? It's kind of playing on the word "Atlantis"
... Am I bumping my thread? Sorry. Anyway, thanks for replying. |

http://www.xcaret.com/flora-fauna/conch.php
Textified version if you hate my handwriting: http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...tis02_text.jpg Actually the thing about conches is, they reproduce very slowly, and are illegally caught before they even reach reproductive age. If you're eating them in a restaurant it's hard to tell if they were old enough...but here they're sold all over for souvineers. That makes me mad! If the conch you bought on vacation is under 20 inches long, it probably was too little and by buying it you contributed to its near-extinction and are going to have fun in hell. Looks like all the newspaper does these days is depress me. Now, it might not seem serious to you guys but now I don't even like the beach, it's trashed and dirty, and if the pink conch goes extinct I am going to have a serious cow and start cutting the motors off every poaching boat I see. But I can't tell the difference between them and regular boats so don't go boating if the pink conch goes extinct. Anyway that's the inspiration for this one. I picked Kiwi Green!
I like them I just wish you'd post more. Come on, if you've been doing these since you were 7 then you must have more to post. Btw, is her nickname Conchita? ![]() |

Hahaha. Maybe.
The ones from my childhood...that's going to motivate me to clean the attic...and I don't want that. But they were funny. Still no majority vote in colors! I don't want to make him pink and regret it. My brother says dark blue, I think gold...but then again I have crazy ideas. Mantis's color has to reflect his mild personality, really; from two comics, who can tell what color Mantis is in his heart? |

Ack you bumped an old thread stop complementing me everyone...the next one is about racism now i HAVE to get it done...you mean salmony? I was leaning toward green-gold for some reason. You're all really sweet even though I don't know you personally, like some of the comics I gave up on I wouldn't have continued without the confidence I got here.
I should post a full-color pinup of him with different color possibilities, maybe? |

Quiet, boring, lousy weekend; my friends are mad at me it seems; at least weather's great. Hot water finally fixed. Managed to get in the new issue, for all the people who forgot the existence of Mantis--and because I was bored, various versions of his color ensemble for all those who voted. Kiwi green goes out to Kwixx.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Look closely; this one's different from before! ![]() It's settled; the coolest part of Max Payne is smashing windows by jumping through them. If only there was a cheat to, like, regenerate them immediately, so you could jump back and forth, over and over... |

An aquatic creature of note is the marine iguana. It is dark and ugly, and rather large for a lizard. It can`t actually breathe underwater,so a cameo in the comic strip is unlikely, but I disagree with Wiki`s words on the subject.
The marine iguana is not only found in the Galapagos islands, because I`ve never been there (is it even open to the public?) and I remember being a kid and watching the rocks under the ruins where loads of them were chilling out. Darwin was right in a way--not only do the lizards camoflage to the stone, but the strongest waves crash against and over them and they don`t move, they don`t even flinch. They just...chill. |
