Haha, had a feeling you might attack that one, guess I shouldn't have posted a wip image in that uncanny stage (yes I did the rim light before the fill).
Totally agree with your tut though, lighting more than the rim with a rim light is bad :P

Spoiler:

I like rim lighting, so I have a yellow rim light(-ish, see the end) for what fire you can see in the comp, but there is a much broader fire going on, so an ambiance of light is coming from that side also. At this point I have a blue light source lighting up the forms on the left side, which I wont be posting due to temporary spite :P
As a final note, realistically the fire is not a rim light source at all as it is not far enough behind her, its more to the side instead. So the subtle rim lighting (as of now) is more of a stylistic choice, becoming unrelated and immune

Now if thats ignorant defensiveness, isn't it damn good?

...adding the rim light to the shadow side also tends to give even more dynamism to the figure than when it is on the side that is already lit by the primary light source. Still though every one owes Muzzoid a thanks for the nice rim job that he has given us all.
