Just made this so i can point the clueless to it.

For this to work best, leave your scanner at default settings, as thats when they usually capture as much detail as possible.

I like this way as unlike levels it doesnt destroy any data, and you can hand tweak it with brushes afterwards.

Note this will not make bad mark making good, it will only make good mark making better.

Anything else should be done by hand or using curves(ctrl+M) or levels(ctrl+L).

Not trying to shut you down or anything, since its great your making all these tutorials. But My design teachers would beg to differ.

I'll have to talk to them about it, but as you (might) know, most designers are really pedantic about having everything perfect, and as such will spend a lot of time tweaking little things like scanner settings to get the most out of it.
If I get the time, I will talk to one of the designers that specializes in that kind of stuff, because I remember him going on for about an hour on how to scan in pencil drawings.

haha, man this is just a quick and dirty way to get stuff looking better, its not for completly polished peices. This is if you are just dumping stuff from your sketchbook and dont want to spend forever per sketch to get them to look presentable.

That being said i probably should have mentioned that.

I don't know if you know this but there's a little button called "fx" in the Layers window and I think there should be a levels tool there which is lossless.
