I think an Epic Scene contest would be cool.

Basically a Scene in which if it was part of the book would be shocking to both the reader and the characters in the context. Just a thought.

Perhaps illustrating a famous passage from a novel or novella, or even poem. Either submitters post a passage that they choose or the contest starter selects a few well known passages. i.e. Hamlet with Yorick's skull, etc.

That would actually be very awesome. A lot to choose from and allows the artist to display the personal emotional impact of the passage.

Heck, I wouldn't even mind if they were slightly more obscure books, just as long as they're available on B&N or Amazon or something... unless the theme was "classics", in which case a list like this would be useful.

well, this just an idea that I have participated on many occasions in other forums before! The one Making the contest, start out by writing a small paragraph, then all entrants are to draw, model, paint,etc what the outcome of the paragraph was about! This leaves tremendous latitude for many interpretations!

Gene splicing.

The contest starter would show two of their favorite characters from drawings here on PK or any other visual media and the contestants would try there best to draw the result of those two characters "mating".

those aren't my drawings just examples of things I've come across on the net. But the samurai one is pac-man.
