Color Art The Druid and her Wolf

I may as well post this here, it's been a while I think?

Acrylic paint on wood panel 18" x 20" :]

It's my first time in a good four or five years since I've last done a real painting! Unless ink counts...then it's been slightly less long haha!
I got my degree in the mail. Painting major. I figured it was high time to actually do some painting...or something.
I only used three colors (primary yellow, magenta, and cyan) + white to make this.
I learned some stuff in the process, it was good times!

Only three colors? Very nice!
The wolf's eye seems a bit low on the face, there.
I forgive you, though, because, damn, those colors!

Ooh, damn, you are totally right!
real life needs a free transform tool, and that'd be so easy to fix :I!! I might go back and repaint it higherrrr.
Hahaha I'm glad you like it though!

the eye thing aside, it doesn't really come across as a wolf to me. quick image google shows the wolves have a far more pointed muzzle/triangular profile, and just looks..different. but if you had just said forest creature, or wild dog, i'd be perfectly fine with that =I

aside from that it looks delicious as always. i like the predominance of blue light.

...now that you mention it... it kinda looks like a bear.
Not a bad thing, by any means! Bears are badass!

haha! This was explained in my sketch thread. He's a werewoof--and I designed him to look like a mix between a bear and a wolf :] It's intentional.
Here's an earlyyy sketch of him in full:

I find it kind of neat though that the bear comes across so strongly to viewers--I didn't expect it to for some reason :U

=0 so crazy!

i kinda like your sketch design better though, there, the head at least is more clearly bear-y, with the body more wolf-like. in the painting, it's this unclear amalgamation.

Totally wicked. I'm diggin' the color palette, and the brush strokes. Very clean and well though out.

other than the eye (heh you can always photoshop it higher, nobody will ever know ), nice work I think it would've been better if the foliage on the right didn't follow the contour of the bear's body like it did, having them more irregular would make it more interesting. same for the mid-background foliage on the left, their directions are too uniform, you needed some of them in other directions as a counterbalance. Other than that it's a nice palette and I like the mood. Grats on the major!

I really like the sense of movement in the sketch. it looks like something an animator would draw.

I agree with Astrapho, I think the plants on the right kind of disturb the flow of the image, also because the wolf and Hood are looking to the left. Also, I think you should show a front leg of him a bit more clearly in the left-under corner.

Otherside, great job! Dig the values (especially the background blue, daaaamn)

Sigh.

Acrylic on wood. So damn gorgeous. Please do this more!

As is apparent from the above comments, maybe spending a little more time in the thumbnail stage would help, and then again in the roughest of the rough stage before things are set in concrete, so to speak.

Again, amazing traditional work. Very rare in these parts
