@Dizom: Thanks! And also thanks for the suggestion. I think I'll do that. It's been a busy week so I wasn't able to do much but I'm starting on that piece :9 I can take maybe 3,4 to 8 hours or even more than 10 depending on piece complexity, though simple stuff like the above character is about 45 mins - 1 hour.

Am slightly tipsy so I probably shouldn't be drawing, but I wanted to at least explore some dragon concepts because I'm doing a dragon pic ;P

Thanks joe truth be told I actually learnt to draw in the beginning because i wanted to learn to animate, I'm happy to be going back to my roots x)

This week i'm making cleanups of animations i did in school, here's the first shitty gif until i learn to export them non-shittily :/ :

I know the feeling. I started drawing because I wanted to draw comics/manga. It's a long road, to get to where you want to be.

@Joe: I see you're finally doing comics Keep it up mate it's true both in comics and animation you are limited by your draftsmanship and visual storytelling skills, so I feel like I've spent 90% of my time doing stuff other than animation for the sake of animation x'D it's worth it though.

Allow me to hijack your thread once more, but do you have any suggestions as far as architectural design? I understand perspective and points of view, but I'm creatively bankrupt when it comes to planning a scene with any kind of background.

No problem Joe. Few things to keep in mind:

1. Time period/location - Research the architecture of the time period and location you're in. Make studies, collect reference, read books, know your subject.
2. Function of building - Know what each feature you're drawing is for and think about how people would travel through and use the place.
3. Purpose/mood of scene - The shape of the features of your building has an emotional impact. For example if you want to make a very calm scene you should use more horizontals and verticals and less dramatic angles. Choose wisely!
4. Character of its owner - And of course, the personality of the person who owned and built the place has to be reflected in the design. Is he messy and unkempt or is he a neat freak? What is this building for and what stuff would he decorate the place with?
5. Style - Do research for finding the right visual style for it. Delivery is important too.

Hope these tips help!

That fat cat is aweeesome. Wouldn't it be easier to model it in 3D then draw over it if you're going to do all the work of getting the perspective boxes perfect like that?

Thanks this exercise we did in school was to learn 1. Synchronising the timing of the character with a moving background 2. Planning the trajectory of a jump with the gravitational equation (the spacing is calculated mathematically!) 3. Keeping volumes constant while moving through space, so you would have cheated out of a learning experience doing it in 3d. anyways in 2d animation it's necessary to calculate the perspective for any movement in perspective and in a real production the sizes are calculated by the layout artist, so it's up to them if they want to use 3d to help, and if they don't choose to and you don't know how to do it manually, it's going to be harder.

Tl;dr You're not wrong that itd have been faster, but it's beneficial to know how to do it by hand. this fat cat better be grateful xP
