Something different.

I suck at clothesmaking, but I'm still happy with how it turned out for my first piece. It's nice to know for sure that your clothing designs are based in reality and don't need fashion tape to look good / stay on in the first place.

Underlit faces are kicking my ass.

But it's a good way to test how well you know your facial anatomy.

Working on faces. They're kicking my tail.

Eyes aren't quite there. Face is also a bit baby-like and all rounded so not much in definition anyways. Also so pale that there's basically zero skin coloration change from areas of the face. So a bit of cheatery.

Eyes look decent, except they're not the eyes I want. A bit too harsh. Nose and cheeks are way overworked and the lighting is kind of screwy there. Mouth isn't bad, but I still need to think on the philtrum. Half the time I paint it way too dark, and that was like five attempts on that alone.

Maybe it's an underlying perspective issue that's screwing with me? Just... something feels off that's flattening it.

I think the rendering is pretty good i don't think the nose is bad at all. When i paint/render noses they appear to be a solid mass separate from the face. Here at least it feels like its blended to the face properly. I would love to know the process as frankly i suck at noses more and i'm increasingly switching to anime to fix my inadequacies.

The eyes especially is top quality and that's the important part. Personally the eyes work with the character. Gives a young mature minded lady.

I do agree that perspective is slightly off the everything neck downwards isn't quite there. the philtrum doesn't align with the mouth or nose. But its pretty well rendered.

a possible suggestion perhaps is maybe more pink/red around the cheeks, especially on her left cheek. I can see some attempt at it, but perhaps a little more maybe in order?

Still, good work here. Keep going!

All-R8, heer are mah 5 cents at tryin't 2 help ya.

Left is yars, r8 is mines.

I believe you pay too much attention to them features and their rendering and not enough to facial planes and how the skull and stuff is constructed. Kienan Lafferty's videos on facial planes are very good here, but I also recommend Andrew Loomis's books, studies of ZBrush heads out there, or just Google images "face planes"- the slanted planes of cheeks, the "band-aid" planes of the nose's bridge, how the nostrils wind back up to the above of the lips and stuff.

Once you get a grip on them planes, don't worry much about rendering, just think in planes and how the light affects them, and the rendering comes out automatic. It sounds easy, but it took me about 2 years to grasp the concept... Maybe you'll learn faster than me XD

The second picture is a good example IMO how you can get away with less rendering - it's the whole face that counts. Mirror image, zoom out, as often as possible, work at distance.
Am not an expert at faces, as a matter of fact have lots of struggles, but jes wanna help ya out, m8.

Thanks guys! Will keep working at it.

Oil painting feels so foreign to me. Maybe that's a good thing. Stretched some muslin over hardboard, since canvas is too rough at these small scales.

More face work. I think I'm happy with this one. The hair on the other hand...

yep, faces is coming along quite nicely. Concerning the hair i think part of the problem is the back of the skull doesn't seem to be defined, so it looks like its the hair lacks volume or part of the head is missing. Compare the oil painting picture and this one. Should be easy relatively easy to correct with free transform tools.

Working on replacing the desktop wallpaper I've had since college. This lighting is killing me. At least the clouds are easy.

With how strong the light seems to be, I think the shadows should be darker.
Really digging the lighting on the side of her face.

I really should have grabbed reference for that one. Utter nightmare with translucent materials, strong light, etc.

Some days I just want to play around with effects. Rifle on the right needs more work, also I can't keep faces consistent. Le sigh. Active camo is still fun though.
