Default LonelyOp's guns and wimminz: Updated 02 April 2010

Hey!

I've been leeching creative power from this forum for a while now, and the time has come for me to present some of my humble artwork for ruthless comments and critiques.

I'm currently deployed to an unspecifiable location winning hearts and minds, so I apologize for the iPhone quality pictures. The colored piece was my very first true Photoshop work, so please tear it to shreds!

And on to the sketches!

crit away!

Well, the first thing that pops out on the colored one - the colors are entirely too dark/saturated.

If you're like I was, that means almost nothing to you but basically - look around you - most dark colors you see are not actually black (including shadows). They're usually a darker version of the color(s) around them + the color of the light. Or minus... or something!

I really like the jeep - that's some sharp stuff

Keep up the good work (and you may want to post an introduction in the introduction thread here)

I can definitely appreciate the SA-13 and the GAZ-69.

Was planning on getting to the MT-LB chassy and the GAZ myself at some point but have been fixated more on the heavier trucks.

I love the pen work in here the most. It's good to see some study sheets, especially noses. I struggled with noses for sooo long haha. Welcome, don't forget to post more ;D

Default A few moar to get us started...

Here's a couple more to bring us up to speed...

Srilyk: I had originally made this a lot more bland, but I wanted to make it darker and "grittier" but i way overcompensated (And this still looks way too comic-ish). It's obvious now that you point it out, thanks.

Kraz: My knowledge of military vehicles is sadly limited to current US Army models and all the Soviet Bloc Tanks, SAMs and ADA that I have to know for my job. I have a couple T-series tanks I might sketch up later...

Muzz: Thanks, man.

I decided to snap some quick photos and do some studies from reference:

both are pencil --> pen --> iphone camera --> messed with in PS

Here's an earlier piece, I decided to try and salvage it with PS, currently a WIP:

my tattoo that I drew up, one of my buddies give it to me on my last deployment. (is the allowed in the sketchbook section?...)

another tattoo concept I thought about:

That tattoo is shaweeet. Unfortunately I think it would have been better without the blood dribbles :/
Those reference pics are great btw.

You can definitely capture a lot of details in your drawing in a short period of time. I can't do that and I have been drawing for years. Really awesome stuff. Look forward to seeing more of your work on the forum.

More sketches from my brain!

my "I wonder if they will find me...?" messy sketch... might improve on it later:

my next WIP, stage one. (Some of the previous sketches were developmental for this)

Mm, loving the soldier sketches. Great detail on the nitty gritty bits. xD Would love to see more polished work sometime.

5te Thank you. I actually added the blood when I got it touched up, but I plan on adding more, so we'll see how the final product turns out. I'm happy with it though, and that's the important thing.

vcat2k and Az and Astrapho Thank you! I'm working on my next photoshop learning project right now, and by God it will look more "finished" if it takes me a year...

Hey man keep going, you're doing good

I think you'll benefit from a focus on facial proportions and head structure , coupled with gestures - keep balance in mind at all times as well

Thank you, Vatsel for the input. I have been lazy about putting in the hard work to nail down proportions, gestures, and such.

Here's the first two entries for my SE with Sxey!!

Thane from ME2

and yeah. sidescrolling 2d action scene. or something.

More fun from the Sxey-LonelyOp SE!

This is a revival of something I sketched up last deployment... I'm just discovering all the crazy textures and brushes in PS, if you can't tell, haha.
