You're going to make it dude

I don't think there is an award for most improved on PK, but perhaps there should be.

A lesson in hard work for us all.

Embrio: Thanks dude, I liked those too

m3_freak: Wow thanks dude! That's about the biggest compliment one can get. I really appreciate it.

Since there's only a couple of months left before applying to art school, I need a portfolio! Please, can you guys help me out and tell me which I should include and which not? Or what I still need to do? If you can, only name the names of the files, not repost them, or this place will turn into a mess. Please, help me out :c

those last three figures are well done! i'd just suggest fixing the hair so it isnt just pencil strokes, but "clumps" or whatever :P the last one is very flat and the first two are really stringy, try to think of hair as a solid mass, then add to that with flyaways and the like

As far as a portfolio, what do you plan on focusing on for art school? and which art school are you going to (if you dont mind my asking )

Edit: Now that i look at the middle figure more, i see some good definition, but some of the hair still seems stringy, like you're trying to draw individual strands

Thanks Sxey, although I didn't concentrate on the hair on purpose, as I was focusing on the figure work. That's no excuse though, the hair is terrible. If you look through my sketchbook I hope you can find some better renderings.

I'm applying for Illustration btw. And as for the academies, they're in Holland, so you probably don't know them:
-Gerrit Rietveld Academie
-Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht (HKU)
-Artez Zwolle
-Willem den Kooning Academie

i love how well defined the shaded areas are, it's something i would really like to concentrate on myself.

and i hate to draw hair sometimes.

i'm curious, would you like to upload something you just started? I'd really like to see how you start these drawings.

Thanks Afro, didn't have much time on my side, so I couldn't make a step-by-step one for you, but it's on my list!

In the meanwhile, I did this for a school project. It's called (literally translated from Dutch) With the back against the world. I made it with the assignment of making something with Martin Bril's poem (With the back against the world)

Oh, and I should mention that I worked for 8 hours on this, kinda rushed because it had to be finished in three days.

It's a really crappy picture, I'll see if I can get a better one tomorrow:

Hi dad

The footsteps are painted, but aren't that clear. Just vague dots to point out that he did walk towards the water. And the traces of the car's tires... well, they vanished I suppose :P

Oh, and please don't use my account for posting something, although I appreciate your comment

Also, you told me that the figure needed some contrast. It actually has, it should be far more dark, just as the car's dropshadow should have, but the picture kind of ruined it a little.

the second image in your recent post: the guy in the hoodie:

i think the lines you used that are radiating out from his face are too stong, not in how dark they are but more of how they go straight out from the face, it draws my eye away from the subject onto the plain paper itself. If you were planning on using that technique in a finished polished piece, i'd recommend having the "background lines" go diagonally from the "face lines" rather than perpendicular

New one:

Phil Hale "Smoke" master study, acrylics on canvas, 20x20 cm. Kinda ****** up the original, but it was still a fun painting. I am going to fix the nose, and correct the light source on the hand.

Edit: put up the newest version of the painting, it's now finished in my eyes. Check out the thread in the finished work section too.
