Caldron.

Hello.
I finally started a sketchbook and hopefully I'll be able to keep it alive. May your crits and comments help along with the process.
Thanks.

Here are some more sketches. Critque to your liking. I apologize for the poor scan quality.
Thanks.

Great looking stuff! The one thing that looks kinda wonky to me though, is how your heads sit on the necks... But only when they're attached to the body ^_^

Your part with just the heads look great!

3amoora 09-28-2007 07:26 AM

nice work... rele nice work on the poses and figure structure, but I dunno... your style of heads has a rounded jaw which im not used to lol, i'm used to straight lined jaws and stuff... but it's ur style so great work! keep it up!

mercenary 09-30-2007 08:09 PM

srilyk: Thank you. I just realized that too.

3amoora: Thanks. I never new that my jaw lines were that unusual.

Here's some new sketches. The first was done with a reference. I'll post some more serious work soon. Just need to get the worm wood out, with your help I'll be able to make that possible.

Thanks.

Here are some more sketches. I used some references to try grasp the concept better, but I don't think I got very far in doing so. Crits and comments are welcome. I'll leave it at that for now.
Thank you.

mercenary 10-04-2007 09:27 AM

Here's another sketch, its more concept though. But hopefully it will be a bit more to your liking.
Pleasure.

Phobos 10-04-2007 06:35 PM

Great sketches man, I love your style.

mercenary 10-05-2007 05:08 PM

Phobos: Thanks.

Here's another sketch, just to keep the artificial heart in this chest beating. This one is a mix of studies involving a reference and some potenial concept art.
Pleasure.

Mercenary, you seem to have some serious skills, but weaknesses in several areas. If you concentrate on smoothing those out, you'll soon kick serious butt.
Pay attention to the lower faces. Your jaws don't look natural and often your faces' chins are way too small and weak. Study some photos or people in real life, the jaw and the chin are more pronounced than you might think, especially in males, but also in females.
Concentrate on the eyes, too. You tend to place them too close together and/or draw them too large. Often, when you're drawing at a small scale and the pencil's not fine enough to catch all the details, it helps to just define the eyes with a few choice lines and leave out the finer details. This works much better most of the time.
Well, I hope this will help. Have fun drawing!

Here's another for the slaughter. This one is concept art. Two characters below are not completely finished nor did they turn out the way I had previously sketched out. But here's some background information on the two. The girl, sorry woman, is a scientist (doesn't really look like it) or something like that; she gets accidently cloned and the guy next to her is the result. Explanation, glitch in the system. The story doesn't revolve around the incident but I thought it would be interesting to have a character introduced that way.

Hopefully I can get some suggestions or criticism to improve it.
Pleasure.

Here's another sketch, with the use of some references. I'll try to post more concentrated sketches as time progresses. But to keep this sketchbook from being devoured by the masses, the incomplete will make themselves known.

I like your eye for interesting poses and perspectives. How about some really dynamic sports shots? Get a sports mag and use some photos in there for reference, it's fun!

3amoora 10-10-2007 01:54 PM

again... the pictures really rock... I love your poses 'cause although they're not dynamic fighting poses, they're intestingly simple... I still love your clothing style, folds, and the way you detail them... great work... keep it up... big fan... lol

chimp 10-10-2007 02:28 PM

Have any main inspiration? I like the style. You should do some facial studies, cause some of them look a bit weak compared to the rest of the drawing. Keep up the nifty work :)

mercenary 10-10-2007 03:07 PM

Quantum: Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try it out and post the results.

3amoora: Thanks for the support.

chimp: As I look back over them, I recognize that I need to practice faces more. Can explain exactly what you mean when you asked "Have any main inspiration"? Thanks.

Here's another sketch. Again some refercences and some 'inspirations and imitations' were used. I'll work in your suggestions into whatever I do next.
Pleasure.

I was trying to ask if you have one artist who you particularly are inspired by, and if so who? Sorry, I'm not so great at wording my sentences .

Edit- also, cool stuff there, the folds on the girl bottom right look nice. :)

I don't really have an artist I aspire to, I kind of put every artist above me and try to learn what I can from each one. But to cut the ranting short, I like Jason Chan's art.

mercenary 10-12-2007 08:02 PM

Here's some more sketches, I tried to apply some of the suggestions you made. But to try is to fail, so I'll have to work harder next time. But to keep you posted and keep this thread active I decided to share some recent work with you.
Pleasure.
