Speed Paint: Now with 5% real juice.
Quick FAQ

What is a SpeedPaint?

The basic rule for speedpainting, as the name implies, is that you're just doing a painting faster than you usually would, generally under an hour. However, it can be shorter or longer depending on the picture. We're not that picky. It's just an exercise which is meant to improve your ability to capture shapes and ideas quickly. Plus, we're just having a little fun.

Just open up a painting program and have at it. Most are using Photoshop, Painter, Opencanvas, or even MS Paint. They're also using tablets except for those talented few that can draw and paint with a regular mouse.

For techniques, everyone has their own, but speed painting is a good chance to try out new ones or just practice things you may have learned elsewhere.

Just to those few of you that have been posting random comments, let's try to keep the general comments to a minimum and just focus on the paint practice.

It's ok to post if you have a question about a technique or something else productive, but I will delete other off topic comments. For example, don't post if you're just saying "that's cool" or saying you're going to do something later.

Um, I was wondering why nobody had restarted this thread and then I noticed this part of the forum was disabled. Oh well, I guess I'll start things off.

About 1-2 hours, I think. I kind of lost track since I had a few interruptions.

Awesome speed painting! I need to practice landscapes, so I figured... what the hell.

This was done in Gimp, I think around 10 minutes, the trees in the bacground suck, I shouldn't have added them, heh heh:

Damn, you guys kick ass. The underwater ones and the foggy castle one made me go

Nice work guys!

This first one I copied from a screenshot from StarWars Ep.1. Nothing to be proud about coping but I just wanted to practice speedpainting and I never thought about showing anyone until now. :squint:

Another fast one for practice. Alien toy ref. used.

Arekusu 12-22-2004 08:41 PM

Well, this wasn't exactly done speeding. i didn't like how it turned out either. but what the hell..

Maybe i'll make something out of this one day. it was good practice though.
