A lot better than where I was at your age, or a few years after, really.

Keep it up!

Nion 03-04-2015 08:39 AM

Thank you!

I don't really like this one just because of her wide face, so I'm redrawing the whole thing ^^'

And this is my semi-realistic portrait in gray scale . . .

Lamb 03-05-2015 01:10 AM

How did you do the semi transparency on the outlines of the first image? It looks really good :) You may not like the image, but I do. The hair falls a bit flat compared to the rest of the image. Very interesting rendering. You're cool :) What bothers me a little is when you take away all the shiny brushy stuff, the underlying painting is a bit samey all by itself. I think it works, but it's something to keep in mind for the future. Make something exciting happen from top to bottom color and lightness wise.

Is that you in the second image? You are very talented. Post more stuff!

Nion 03-05-2015 08:07 AM

Thank you so much! You've put a smile on my face :D
The transparency thing, I had a base layer which was white and a whole drawing on the 2nd layer (Paint tool SAI) and then, when I finished, I converted it into PDF and removed the background from the base layer, or do you mean the blur? :) I've just selected the drawing and clicked on filter -> blur -> Gaussian blur in Photoshop. The 2nd attempt of the character is here: http://sta.sh/07qdca10f2v with more color variation haha I think. . .

And yes, that's me :unibrow: I'll do my best!

^ Doing pixels is lots of fun!

^ Messing around :D

^ and a quick background study

I had a character design project but I got rid of my tablet so I can revise
More digital drawings are only gonna be in summer :tear:

Critiques are welcome here too!

Love the atmosphere of the study! That's something I'm working on myself... convincing environments!

Yeah it's really fun to do!
I'll make sure to do more of these in the future :D

Nion 04-09-2015 04:41 AM

A gift for special someone, It's a bit wonky haha :)

Nion 04-19-2015 09:50 AM

A 40 minute study, I allowed myself to have a tablet for studies because I'm irresponsible!

Nion 04-22-2015 01:29 PM

The face studies are all drawn in less than an hour :)
And a shiny study. . .

RobotCat 04-22-2015 08:28 PM

The studies look good, especially the glass sphere. Although the base seems a lot more roughly rendered than the top?

Also for your portrait studies, I feel like you need to use some more not as opaque brushes for some of the rougher strokes. Otherwise they look great.

Grieverjoe 04-22-2015 09:54 PM

I really wanted to say something, but looks like RobotCat beat me to it, so...

-Thank you~ ;)

The cloth patterns seem to be applied a bit flat. I'd think the colors would be slightly different depending on the angle.

You're right I didn't think of it much, though I tried drawing this as fast as I could to improve my speed and I'm not used to drawing clothing at all :)

^ I found a useful tutorial on youtube about designs, seems like it helped! This is just a sketch ^^
The link to the tutorial in case anyone's wondering>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjDDqnkH8v0

^ and this is a birthday present for my cousin :)

Lamb 06-10-2015 01:28 PM

I really like design 2 and design 5. You've got something great going on :)

Great job on the portrait too. I love the value control. Maybe you could try pushing the shadows a bit more, but that may depend on the reference. I am so jealous :D

Nmn 06-10-2015 06:33 PM

Awesome sketches, man. I really like how you work with the lineart.

astrapho 06-11-2015 10:04 AM

Nice portrait there, good expression :D Agree with lamb about pushing the shadows, selectively and tastefully done it'll help with the contrast. Keep it up!
